On the 26th of September, our TY class made hats with Suzie Mahony. We were asked to pick various materials and then create a hat suitable for wearing anywhere. I already knew a bit about hat making and famous people, like Philip Treacy, who is a very famous hat designer. I decided to go with a lemon - yellow colour. She then showed us how to sow a needle and thread. I picked out yellow flowers, yellow strips and a golden net with small feathers attached to it. I used inspiration, from a hat I had seen on the internet, except I really wanted to go with a bright lemon colour.
When sowing, you had to get thread, loop it around twice, stick it through the eye of the needle, make a knot at the end, and begin sowing. Although I found it really hard to sow, I really enjoyed making the hat. I pricked myself once or twice, while trying to sow, but ended up using my sleeve to cover my fingers. I would love to do more activities like this as I think I am a very creative and artistic person, who enjoys making things. I even went home and tried to make a hat myself, but ended up dumping it as I didn't have the materials that I required.
All together, I really enjoyed hat making and I'm hoping in the future, I can learn more on it.
