BT Young Scientist Project: Our teacher told us about the BT Young Scientist project, and so I decided to team up with someone and create a project based around antibacterial soaps. Our project was titled: Are Chemical Soaps Safe and Effective? We decided to make a natural antibacterial soap and put it to the test against an chemical soap. We used many different herbs and butters to make lye and made a good soap that had the same antibacterial properties as a chemical soap. We also used colloidal silver which has good anti bacterial properties. We then mixed it with water and passed electricity through it.
We tested it on hand grown bacteria we cultivated for over a period of two days in petri dishes. We looked at the bacteria under my brothers microscope and wrote down and recorded our results. We then typed up our project in school and submitted it to the BT Young Scientist. We are still waiting for an email back on whether we got in or not but fingers crossed!
