Program: The Healthy Lifestyle Program began at 9 in the morning, where Jeff Allen and Agata Hildago spoke to us about how to maintain a healthy diet and how to train yourself into achieving as best as you can. After a 2 hour talk we went outside, where we played tug of war and played other games.
We learned that Jeff was a veteran of the Irish Permanent Defence Force and retired after 21 years of service. He then took part in sports and participated at various times for the army hurling, football and tug of war sides. Like many soldiers, Jeff harboured a great respect for the Army Ranger Wing (ARW), a very small elite unit of Special Forces soldiers. Only candidates who successfully complete a notoriously gruelling one month selection course are considered for entry to the ARW and 90% of all candidates commencing the course fail to make the grade. In 1997, Jeff set himself a goal to achieve entry to the ARW at the 1999 selection course.
In October 1999, Jeff was one of only nine survivors from 98 hopefuls embarking on the selection course and, after a further nine months of training and probation, he was rewarded with a green beret. Jeff went on to serve five years with the ARW in East Timor and as the force commander’s bodyguard in Ethiopia and Eritrea.
Agata trained with the College of Naturopathic Medicine in Cork and Nutrition and Health education provider. She had always been interested in looking for new ways to improve my health. It was here that she was introduced to a new way of looking and understanding the human body and its ability to heal. She had always suffered from chronic asthma, allergies and my immune system seemed to be in poor shape as she spent most of the winter months sick with chest infections and colds. Since graduating in 2011 she has worked in a variety of very interesting projects. She started working in the Natural Fertility Clinic where she was part of a team of therapists focusing on bringing balance to the body by combining different holistic approaches.
